Defining the Global Liberal Arts College for the Twenty-First Century

What is the Initiative?

Fostering Teaching and Mentoring

Support for Middlebury’s rich learning environment and intensive student-faculty collaboration

Personalized teaching and mentoring relationships between faculty and students are at the heart of a Middlebury education. Significant resources are required to support an engaged and active faculty and to ensure small classes, excellent advising, and meaningful mentoring. To achieve these goals, the College intends to add 25 new faculty positions, create professorships to honor exceptional faculty achievement, provide funds for curriculum development, and support collaborative research by professors and the students who work side by side with them. Enhancing faculty resources will also strengthen the academic profile of the College by ensuring that faculty members are able to maintain the high level of scholarly and creative achievement that makes Middlebury a vibrant intellectual community.
